Young Explorers 2020 - Sharks

The theme for the July 21 Young Explorers program was Sharks! This is always our most popular program in the summer. Below are some pictures of the fun.

Exploring the beach at low tide. We found lots of green crabs.

During the aquarium tour, the Young Explorers got to see a lobster that had recently moulted!

There was also a sea star broadcast spawning in one of the tanks!

Conducting an experiment to learn about shark's oily livers and buoyancy.

In the lab studying shark teeth from different species.

How many rows of teeth do you see?

Using the microscope to see the dermal denticles on the shark skin.

Investigating electricity while discussing shark electroreceptors.

This is a skate egg. We observed the skates, which are shark relatives.
