Harvey Elementary

Today we welcomed to the aquarium 35 excited kindergarten and grade 1 students from Harvey Elementary school!  The students started off touring the aquarium with Justin, learning about some of the amazing creatures that live in the Bay of Fundy and watching Snorkel and Loki, the harbour seals have their breakfast.  Yum, fish for breakfast!  Then they headed into the wet lab to explore their sense of touch.  In the lab they learned all about texture while making an ocean craft of sandpaper sea stars, felt sand dollars and cellophane seaweeds.  Then the students discovered which senses lobsters, seals and fish use in the dark waters of the Bay of Fundy.  Did you know that harbour seal whiskers can detect the size and shape of a fish by sensing the vibrations they make in the water?  Cool!  At the end of the lab the students got to touch urchins, sea cucumbers, sand dollars and sea stars in the touch pool.  Pretty fun!

Below are some pictures from their visit.
