Today
the grade 6 French Immersion students from River Valley Middle School visited
the Huntsman to take part in the Ocean Discovery Program. While on campus the students viewed plankton
using the microscopes, did scientific drawings and descriptions of live marine arthropods
and other invertebrates, conducted a behaviour experiment with sea star and sea
urchins, and even got to have lunch around the touch tank!
Viewing plankton at 100x magnification.
Studying a rock crab.
Identifying a blood star using the field guide.
This green crab decided to cause some excitement
and crawled out of the dish earlier!
Using the field guide to find the hermit crab's latin name.
Observing how a sea star flips.
Timing how long it takes the urchin to flip.
An acrobatic sea star!
