Triangle 4H Club – Day 2

This morning we headed out in the misty rain to Pottery Creek to mark green crabs.  They are an invasive species that we started gathering data about last year.  The students did great finding 29 crabs, which now all sport a pretty red spot of nail polish on their back…even the boy crabs!

After a quick stop at Needler Hall to get out of their wet gear and boots the students met in the lab to conduct a flipping experiment with sea stars and urchins.  Their data this morning showed that sea stars are faster than urchins, but was inconclusive regarding if smaller or larger animals were faster.

Thank you to the students and chaperones of the Triangle 4-H Club for a great couple of days!  Good luck with all of your 4-H endeavors!
