Young Explorer Day - Seal 2018

Today's Young Explorer program at the Huntsman Fundy Discovery program was all about seals. To start off we observed Snorkel and Loki, the harbour seals. We learned that they are mammals just like us. Then we prepared the herring for their lunch and watched as they were fed by the aquarium interpreters. We even got to see the vitamin they get every day. After that we played a game where mom seals searched for their pup using sound.

After lunch we learned about adaptations that seals have to live in the ocean by dressing up our summer student. We got lots of laughs! We made an origami craft to remind us of seal adaptations. We played seal true and false. To end off the day we explored the intertidal zone (beach) and found lots of animals.

There are just a few more weeks left of our Young Explorer Days. Next Wednesday is all about whales and the final program is about seabirds. We are also offering a French program on August 21 and our Advanced Explorer Days, for ages 11-15 on Thursdays. You can register for all of these programs on our website

Thank you to all our Young Explorers for coming to learn about seals with us today!
