Shark Young Explorer Day 2017

Students attending today's Young Explorer program at the Huntsman Fundy Discovery Aquarium had the opportunity to learn about sharks. We also took advantage of the low tide and nice weather to explore the intertidal zone.

Exploring the intertidal zone in search of living creatures.

The students found lots of green crabs of all sizes.

They also found sideswimmers.

We looked at shark teeth and jaws in the lab.

Experimenting with oil, water and air to understand swim bladders and oily shark livers.

Learning about the size of sharks.

Observing the anatomy of skates, a relative of sharks.

Skates and sharks are both cartilaginous.

A skate egg or mermaid's purse.

If your child would like to attend more marine biology programs this summer we have very limited space available for Microscopic Wednesday, August 16 and Lobster Wednesday, August 23. We also have space in our new Advanced Explorer program for children aged 11-15. These programs are offered August 10, 17 & 24. And don't forget our program Marine Debris into Art which is being offered August 21 in partnership with Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre. For information on our programs or to register please call 506-529-1245.

  1. Penny had a great day at Shark Camp (again!)! Highlights included the touch tank, the intertidal zone and the life-size shark drawings! We'll definitively be back!
