Royal West - Day 2

With low tide at 8:22am yesterday morning the students headed out early to Holey Point beach to conduct their zonation lab.  Despite the rain the students did a great job collecting the data on animals and seaweeds along their transect lines.  They found a number of different seaweeds including irish moss, laver, petalonia, knotted wrack and rockweed, as well as, animals such as sideswimmers, periwinkles, and barnacles.

In the afternoon the students were in the lab getting a closer look at the echinoderms, sea stars and urchins.  After completing some wonderful drawings of the external anatomy of these animals the students headed up to Anderson House to work on their zonation posters. I look forward to seeing the creative posters on Saturday.

Starting zonation at low tide.

Looking good in their rain gear!

Counting the animals in the quadrate.

Studying the anatomy of the common sea star.
