Tour Tuesday - Beaches

Today we will tour some of the beautiful beaches (or intertidal zones) that our field course participants experience firsthand, when the giant tides of the Bay of Fundy recede.  The first that students experience while at the Huntsman is Indian Point.  This is a mixed habitat location teeming with life; just look under the seaweed and rocks to find sea stars and urchins.  Excited screeches of “crab” can often be heard here!  Another location that entices screeching is Pottery Creek.  This muddy beach allows students to test their shoveling skills while searching for the weird and wonderful marine worms that live in the sediments.  When it is time to get down to work, Holey Point and Green’s Point are two locations where students can gather data in the field using transects and quadrats.  Though we don’t offer sandy beaches for sunbathing and swimming, the beaches that we do offer are full of life, allowing students many new experiences.
